On 11 October 1992, presented Pope John Paul II the believers in the world, the Catholic Church Catechism, which he characterized as "a reference text for a catechesis which is renewed from living sources of faith." Thirty years after the opening of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) became the desire that the Extraordinary Synod of Bishops had uttered in the year 1985, namely that it would prepare a catechism of the Catholic religious and moral teachings, met.
